Gypsy Cobs, Vanners, Drums At Shamrock Farms

Shamrock welcomed their first two Gypsy Cobs/Vanners in late summer 2004. Billy O’Brien and Lavender and Lace. Billy and Lace were 3 years old when they came to the Bluegrass from England.

Billy O’Brien is a successful Saddleseat show horse and is shown by children and adults in English pleasure classes at the Ky County Fairs. He is also a premier lesson horse and is patiently teaching tiny “up downers” and older adults to enjoy riding, driving and the trails of Shamrock Farms. Billy ( known as the Gypsy Prince) also shows in draft classes in ladies driving and has an undefeated record with Julianne driving.

Lace had a Silver colt in May of 2005 whom we named Silverado. He is learning to long line and will be hooked and driven as a yearling . Silverado has remained a stallion to this point and his behavior will delegate his right to breed as a two year old. He is very correct , well mannered, and friendly as well as handsome with his rare coloring. Lace is now being bred to the famous Irish Gypsy stallion DUNBRODY as he completes his quarantine at Shamrock Farms.

The Gypsy horses have a unique and historical lineage in Europe and are held as the treasures of past., present and future by the Romany families who breed them.

Since then we have incorporated a Quarantine Facility and welcomed many more Gypsy horses from both Ireland and England . With the World Games in Lexington in 2010, we have also quarantined several sought after event mares who have come early for competition training.

Our endeavor with the Gypsy Horses has introduced us to many new Equine friends, ideas and projects. We would encourage your interest in these rare horses as investments and use as show, lesson and family trail companions. They are expensive but have been worth the time and effort to import them for our family here at Shamrock Farms. We have found them to be unusually intelligent, tractible and athletic with fancy action, sound and willing to do whatever we have asked. They come in all sizes—from 13 to 17 hands, have silky flowing feathers on their legs from knees and hocks down covering their big hooves. Double manes and tails that grow fast and thick. At Shamrock Farms you can truly kiss a Gypsy Prince and drive a Silverado!
